48 competitors from 13 countries, including Mr. Zsolt Tamás citizen of Bonyhád lined up for start in the Triple Ironman World Championship in Lensahn. Now, he is going to share his experiences with our readers.
Approximately 100-200 people check our website every day. They spend 3 minutes with reading the latest news. But on the last weekend of June, during the Double Ultratriathlon World Championship we had much more visitors.
The time limit for the Triple Ultra Triathlon World Championship in Lensahn expired on 1st August, at 5 p.m. 41 of the 50 starters have successfully performed swimming on 11,400 metres, cycling on 540 kilometres and running on 126.6 kilometres.
The Triple Ultra Triathlon World Championship will start in Lensahn on 30th July, Friday, at 7 a.m. Three Hungarian sportsmen will take part in the competition: Mr. Zsolt Tamás, Mr. Antal Vőneki and Mr. János Gerhát. Several sportspersons whose names are familiar to the public are listed for start.
In order to promote the triathlon in the Bonyhád world championship, also a VIP relay team lined up for start: five ambitious personages of public life jointly performed the Olympic distance. We asked the team members to write about their experiences in the Bonyhád competition.
Organizers of the world cup in Bonyhád were obliged by IUTA to test contestants finishing in the first and second place for illegal performance-enhancing drugs with the WADA test.
The name of Zsolt Tamás from Bonyhád has been known by the world since 2007 when he won the world cup series of ultratriathlon. He has organised ultratriathlon race three times since then. It is thanked to him that 66 Ironmen from 15 countries have known his narrower home. Due to the organisation he has had less time for preparation, trainings. It was in 2008 when he last took part in an ultratriathlon competition. It happened in Germany, Lensahn. His comeback is also planned there. He starts the Triple Ultratriatlon World Championship on 30th July.
Hi there! I’m Luca, one of the youngest participants in the championship (24 years old). I took my encouragement from Paolo Della Patrona’s suggestion to enter the competition. Hi took part last year in the Nizza Ironman and I followed that and found this kind of competing very attractive. I started cycling and swimming in September, and running in the winter together with swimming. The consequences of this became, in an insane moment, I registered in the Bonyhád competition, truth is, with little training but with a lot of will.
Pictures taken at the world championship are now available on the website's gallery.
Township of Völgység – or else, shipping the news form a town of Völgység. ‘In the beginning there had been two townships in the newly inhabited Tolna county, the one around Simontornya and the other one around Dunaföldvár. In 1725 the township of Völgység, which also excels with its picturesque beauty, was detached from these two long, north-south lying townships. The centre of the township of Völgység became Bonyhád, which at that time did not count as a main town yet.’ But today it does all the more so. :-)

- Triple Ironman World Cup Heat has been arranged in Lensahn for 20 years. It was valued as a world championship more times. It is a legendary place; it is the Mecca of ultratriathlon. In 2008, before our first world cup heat in Bonyhád, we went to the race of Lensahn to promote our competition. We were there, so I started off the challenge. My time was not as good as in 2004, 2006 or 2007 but I sent my name for the race of next year immediately. Last year I could not be there; so my entry fee has remained and come to this year. And now my name is on the start list of the world championship amongst two other Hungarian athletes Antal Vőneki and János Gerhát. Lensahn has a special feeling and a fantastic organiser team. Wolfgang Kulow, chief organiser, is keen to help us with his experiences of organisation.
- You organised world championship this year in Bonyhád too. Have you had time to prepare for the German competition?
- I trained in private. From the 50 participants I would like to be in the first 20. Otherwise, I have never given up doing some sport, I have only trained less and I have not participated in international races. I had to develop my body to a higher level, obviously. It was a tough exercise. I do not know what I can expect from myself after the two-year pause. But I am optimist on the basis of my training results in the past few weeks. The distance: 11400 meter swimming, 540 km cycling and 126.6 km running. The time limit is 56 hours. I know about 20 athletes from the 50 participants. I am fond of seeing that there are a lot of new comers in the triple category. Race of Lensahn has a really tough cycling course on a hilly area. Running track is almost the same, 20 meter altitude between the two streets we are going to run in. It is usually 15-20 % of the competitors who give up a triple Ironman ... In Lensahn the start is at 7 o’clock on Friday morning and we have to finish the race until 5 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday. It is really hard, athletes go in two nights which together with the huge physical strain hardly can be tolerated by human body.
